Essence Magazine previews new ABC series “The Mayor”

ABC’s upcoming series “The Mayor” tests the main character’s ability to actually work hard and play hard as he attempts to balance two very different public positions.

Former “Glee” star, Lea Michele and Brandon Micheal Hall appear as the main characters in ABC’s new television series “The Mayor.” Brandon Micheal Hall plays Courtney Rose, a young black male who not only aspires to be a famous rapper, but also, the local mayor. However, his intentions for his campaign run were not fully political and more so attention-seeking. Rose believed taking candidacy would help promote his recent mix-tape and increase his media following, but be careful what you ask for.

On the other hand, passionate politician Valentina Barella, played by Lea Michele, focuses on the issues of the city that need to be resolved by a mature and able public figure. Needless to say, Barella’s candidate would not take the position as city mayor for the next four years. As a result, she decides to join Courtney Rose and his team to plan his first 100 days in office.

“Running for mayor is easy. All you need is 200 signatures and no felonies and I don’t go to trial ’til next year,” Rose joked in a news interview.

You see much of this humorous honesty throughout the premiere episode which keeps viewers intrigued and laughing. Be sure to tune into “The Mayor” on ABC Tuesday, October 3 at 8:30 p.m. (CST) and every Tuesday following.
