90s sitcom 'Martin' awarded at ABFF Honors

After a night of awarding Black excellence, the American Black Film Festival dedicated a tribute award, Classic Television Comedy, to Martin Lawrence and the cast of successful, Black executed sitcom 'Martin'. Co-stars Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II joined Martin on stage to accept the honor. Although they mourn the passing of co-star, Tommy Ford, 'Martin' cast members have confirmed their interested in creating a reboot series of the 90s show.

About 'Martin'

'Martin' portrays the troubles of a bold, cocky radio and tv personality, Martin Payne (Martin Lawerence) and his girlfriend Gina (Tisha Campbell). Taking place in Detroit, the two are bond to run into trouble with the help of Martin's best friends Tommy (Tommy Ford) and Cole (Carl Anthony Payne II) and Gina's bestie Pam (Tichina Arnold).

The show aired on television in 1992 and continued for five successful seasons. During its run 'Martin' accrued over five awards and three nominations from the People's Choice Awards, NAACP Image Awards and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. Although Fox originally aired the show, in 2011, MTV2 began to air the reruns. However, by 2015, BET had taken over and remains the current network airing past episodes of 'Martin.'
